Sweedle: Open

This guide is intended for people applying to be a Moderator for the Space Station 13 community called Baystation. There are a number of other servers running modifications of our code and some don't change the defaults. Double check to make sure you're in the right place.

Currently, Moderator on-boarding is:

* Applications: OPEN.
* Trials: CLOSED.

Requirements
You can learn about what a Moderator does on Baystation by visiting the Guide to Server Moderation. To become one, you should apply while Moderator applications are open. We will not usually consider applications sent outside those times. There are also some basic requirements:

* Be in good standing with the server.
** You cannot be recently banned, even from jobs.
* Be an active player on Baystation for a couple of months.
** We like to know you first, and want you to stick around.
* Be an adult.
** We have no sexual content but expect maturity. This means an assertion of 18+.
* Understand the Baystation approach to moderation.
** As we will explore together below!

We also take input from other players and staff members on whether they think you would be a good fit. We won't share this input, but might give you pointers based on it.

How It Works
Moderators aren't catapulted straight in. We run two week trial periods after applications close. For the duration of the trial period, you will have access to the #staff-trials channel on Discord, but not general staff channels.

For the first week, you will need to be online at the same time as an Administrator. They will assign you the Trial Moderator role on demand – be proactive. At the end of this week we'll give you feedback, which might just be "Good job!".

For the second week, you will have the Trial Moderator role for the duration – no more asking. If everything has gone well by the end (and you're still happy to be here), you'll be a Moderator. If not, we may decline you or extend your trial period, depending on reasons.

How To Apply
To get started, open a text editor and for each thing below, copy the bolded title and answer it. Formatting isn't important. When you've finished, go to the discord and use the
/tickets open
command. Once you've created the ticket, add your answers. Staff may ask you follow up questions here.

Basic Info:
* My BYOND Key - Who you log into BYOND as.
* My Discord ID - Who you are on our Discord server.
* Why I Want To Moderate - Just out of interest!

Game Scenarios:
The fun part. These tell us if you get the general idea, what we'll need to catch you up on if you're accepted, and what feedback we can give. We don't expect perfect answers and word counts don't matter – only write what you think you should do and why.

* No. 1: blandmelon19 (Sophie Bernard) has joined the server for the first time. They have joined in a simple role without a customized character and are moving around without speaking, picking up items.
* No. 2: tepidfluid (Jazz Hardy) and wildthrumbo19 (Ozue Izla), a Traitor, were in combat. Ozue Izla has won the fight. tepidfluid starts a ticket to complain that they were killed unreasonably.
* No. 3: snoopysnoops has connected to the server but not joined the game. They ask a question about whether the current round needs an Engineer using OOC.
* No. 4: The current round is ending. blandmelon19 (Alex Norman) starts a ticket to say that tepidfluid (Tony Contralto) has attacked wildthrumbo19 (Xuq'xuq Quuqu-uu). An Administrator mentions that wildthrumbo19 created the first attack log. When you look, all three are fighting.
* No. 5: frosting123 mentions that they would like to apply for a species. They mention things they like about it, but some of the things are clearly wrong – perhaps from another server.

----However it goes in your case – thanks for taking the time to apply.
Uniform Guide

Sweedle: ...But pride is not THAT not out of uniform

While playing as Crew aboard the SEV Torch, there will be four general types of uniform you will be wear, the wear of which is governed by IC regulations. Each has its own individual components, and are appropriate for different occasions and activities. Don't mix and match components of each uniform unless this guide specifically permits it. Military personnel are required to always wear their uniform except when their occupation would require otherwise, or they are substituting their uniform for equipment available in their occupation's lockers, such as doctors wearing scrubs, or engineers wearing a radiation suit. Religious headgear in colors that match the main color of each uniform is permitted.

While in uniform, you are representing yourself, your organization, and your ship. Take pride in your appearance, and do your best to do your service proud. Do not smoke, eat, chew gum, drink, or put your hands in your pockets while walking. If you have any questions about the uniform, don't hesitate to ask OOCly, or in an adminhelp. Crew that are off-duty are permitted to wear civilian clothes, and are not required to follow grooming guidelines, though it is recommended they still comport themselves with dignity and professionalism.

General Rules
These rules apply to all branches unless specifically overriden. If an item of uniform is not listed (e.g. no shirt listed), same piece of clothing from 'lower' uniform is used (e.g. service shirt for dress uniform).

PT Uniform
The most basic is the Physical Training or "PT" uniform. This consists of shorts, a tee shirt, ankle socks, and plain shoes.

This uniform, as the name suggests, is only for working out, sleeping, or wearing under other uniforms, and should not be worn at work.

Utility Uniform
The next type of uniform is the "utility" uniform, which is what you'll be wearing most of the time.

This uniform is durable, simple, and protects the wearer from a variety of hazards. It can be worn with any variety of job-related equipment, and under things like hardsuits or armor. Don't wear any decorations like medals or ribbons in this, with the exception of specialty pins for Fleet personnel. Can be worn with a variety of additional work-related items, including job-specific clothing like lab coats, armour, helmets, welding masks, and gloves. Generally, anything in your job locker counts as job-specific clothing. Shoulder-boards and other uniform accessories should never be transferred to job-specific clothing and should remain on the main uniform.

Service Uniform
The "service" uniform is similar to business formal attire, often worn when in an office, or at official functions.

This shouldn't be standard wear for the most crew aboard the Torch; unless your job doesn't involve much physical activity, keep this one in your locker. Can be worn with decorations, and often includes jacket to wear over the main uniform. Can be worn with equipment belts and holsters, but no webbing or vests.

Dress Uniform
Finally, your "dress" uniform is for special occasions, much like a tuxedo or little black dress, it has mystical properties around your preferred gender.

As the name suggests, this should be saved for events like visiting dignitaries, or a formal court martial. Should not be worn with any extra equipment or gear save holsters, armbands, ranks, specialty pins, or awards.

Other Considerations
Grooming and Hair
While in uniform, the crew is expected to maintain a certain standard of personal hygiene and grooming. This means that you must have groomed hair that does not cover your eyes, extend past the collar of your uniform, or too far from the top of your head. As much as you'd like to have a massive afro, it would be hard to fit under a helmet if the ship came under attack. Trimmed mustaches are permitted, provided they are not split at any point. Other facial hair is not permitted, except for the 3 O'clock shadow and its mustachioed variant. The following styles are permitted for all military personnel, with facial hair in italics:

Adam Jensen Hair, Afro, Bald, Balding Boddicker, Balding Fade, Balding Hair, Bedhead 3, Bob, Bobcurl, Bobcurl2, Bowl, Bun Quad, Business, Business 2, Business 3 Buzzcut, CIA, Chin Length Bob Cut, Coffee House Cut, Combover, Crewcut, Curls, Cut Hair, Emo Fringe, Fade Grown, Father, Flat Top, Gelled Back, High Bun, High Fade, High and Tight, Joestar, Kusanagi Hair, Librarian bun, Low Bun, Low Fade, Low and Long Mowhawk, Low Mohawk, Medium Fade, Mohawk, Mulder, Overeye, Overeye 2, Overeye Bun, Parted, Parted Fade, Pompadour, Ponytail 2, Ponytail 3, Ponytail 6, Ponytail Wavy, Quiff, Regulation Cut, Regulation Mohawk, Regulation Mohawk 2, Reverse Mohawk, Rows, Scully, Shaved, Short Bangs, Short Bun, Short Hair, Short Hair 2, Short Hime, Short Parted, Short Spiked, Shoulder-length Hair, Side undercut, Skinhead, Spiky, Swept Short, Swept Back, Tight Bun, Trimmed, Trimmed Flat Top, Undercut, Undercut 2, Wheeler. 3 O'clock shadow, 3 O'clock shadow with mustache, Hulk Hogan Mustache, Selleck Mustache, Square Mustache, Watson Mustache.

Expeditionary Corps
Members of the Expeditionary Corps, as permitted by EC regulations, may let their hair grow out further while in deep space. Trimmed beards, ponytails, and longer hairstyles are permitted, given that the hair does not extend over the shoulder, or sit above the head unassisted so far as that it cannot be forced under a helmet. The following additional styles are permitted for Expeditionary Corps members:

Hairstyles: Afro 2, Bedhead, Bedhead 2, Beehive, Belenkotied, Bowl, Dandy Pompadour, Devil Lock, Dreadlocks, Feather, Flow Hair, Fringetail, Grande Braid, Hitop, Homecut Short, Long Fringe, Nitori, Odango, Ombre, Parted, Ponytail 1, Ponytail 5, Poofy, Shoulder Bob, Shoulder-length Wavy, Sleeze, Updo, Vegeta

Facial hair: 3 O'Clock Moustache, 3 O'Clock Shadow, 5 O'Clock Moustache, 5 O'Clock Shadow, 7 O'Clock Moustache, 7 O'Clock Shadow, Abraham Lincoln Beard, Adam Jensen Beard, Chinstrap, Elvis Sideburns, Full Beard, Goatee, Hipster Beard, Neckbeard, Volaju

Hats/Covers while in Uniform
Under current SolGov military regulations, uniformed personnel are not required to wear hats (Also called 'covers'), while serving aboard a naval vessel such as the SEV Torch. If available as a part of uniform, berets can replace headgear of all of uniforms (utility, service, dress).

Jewelry
The crew is allowed to wear simple and conservative jewelry, and it must be in good taste while in uniform. Eccentricities or faddishness are not permitted, and the jewelry may not present a safety hazard. One ring per hand is permitted, plus a wedding or engagement ring set. Only one necklace is permitted while in uniform, and it must not be visible.

Pronoun and Pride Badges
To facilitate communication on the ship, all crew are allowed to wear simple pronoun badges on all uniforms to communicate their preferred pronouns. While common in postings with less strict uniform enforcement, pins with pride flags are not a sanctioned part of the uniform. Officers are taught, however, that enforcing this particular regulation is ill-advise at best, and career suicide at worst.

Expeditionary Corps uniforms
Expeditionary Corps uniforms are black, with silver trim for enlisted and staff crew members, and gold for heads of staff. Rank is displayed with a badge worn on collar.

Sweedle: Pronouns pins: uniform. Pride pins: Not.
